The 73rd regular convention of the Kansas District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod took place June 7-9 in Topeka. The district convention occurs every three years, and this year’s theme was “Life Together in Mission” based on Philippians 1:5, where Paul rejoices in the Philippian Christians’ “partnership in the Gospel.” Trinity’s voting delegates were Pastor Mark and Dan Owsley. Activities during the convention included worship, ministry videos highlighting various ministries, elections, a three-part keynote address, a session led by Missouri Synod President Matthew Harrison, and consideration of over two dozen resolutions. Resolutions were voted upon and passed by the assembly regarding outreach here in Kansas and abroad, ongoing support and care for church workers and their families, and a commendation of Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska (the closest Concordia University to Kansas) as they celebrate their 125th anniversary. Particularly noteworthy for Trinity is that the resolution we discussed and passed at our January congregational assembly was combined with another into a resolution directing the district to study and develop a congregation-based older adult ministry plan that can be used by congregations throughout the district. District President Peter Lange was re-elected to a second term. Pastor Mark was also elected as the regional vice-president for Region 1, which consists of the northeast part of the state. Five circuits of 6-10 congregations are located in Region 1, including the congregations on the Kansas side of the Kansas City metropolitan area. District conventions are a helpful reminder that Trinity’s ministry is part of a broader partnership with brothers and sisters in Christ throughout the state of Kansas and beyond. Thank God for this “partnership in the Gospel.” If you have any questions, please contact Pastor Mark or Dan Owsley.
