Jacqueline Sue Trantham, 84, of Edwardsville, Kansas, passed away on July 12, 2017. Jackie was born December 4, 1932, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Jacob and Sue Schmidt. Jackie was raised on Belinder Avenue in Fairway, Kansas. She graduated from Shawnee Mission High School (now SM North High School) and Valparaiso University, where she majored in English. Following her college graduation in 1953, Jackie worked in Texas as a high school English teacher and traveled throughout Western Europe. In 1960 Jackie married John W. Trantham.

During the 1960s and 1970s, Jackie was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Mission, Kansas, and a homemaker and loving mother of two sons in Prairie Village, Kansas. Although Jackie struggled with mental illness for much of her adult life and was divorced in 1980, she made every effort to be active in her sons' lives and to share her love with family and friends.

During the 1980s, she volunteered at Humana Hospital Overland Park and was a member of the Valparaiso University Guild (KC Chapter) and Zion Lutheran Church in Prairie Village. Jackie is predeceased by her parents, son Timothy Trantham, and ex-husband. Jackie is survived by son Daniel Trantham and daughter-in-law Jungyul Yu; and multiple cousins, including Ronald Wagner, who was her legal guardian for the last 30 years of her life.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. (preceded by visitation at 10 a.m.) on Friday, October 6, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 5601 W. 62nd St., Mission, KS 66202. Private interment at Highland Cemetery. The family welcomes donations made in Jackie's memory to Brain and Behavior Research Foundation, Metro Lutheran Ministry, or a charity of your choice
