Fauré Requiem
david lang: little match girl passion
Collaboration with Störling Dance Theater

For the first time ever Spire performs Gabriel Fauré’s luminous and profoundly beautiful Requiem featuring the gorgeous “Pie Jesu” in the 1893 chamber version originally created by the composer. Described by Fauré himself as “a happy deliverance,” this timeless work will come to life in new ways with the award-winning choreography of the Störling Dance Theater.

David Lang’s Pulitzer Prize-winning oratorio the little match girl passion has been described as “breathtakingly spare and icily gorgeous” in spite of its minimalist construction. The result is a surprisingly lush retelling of the Hans Christian Anderson story in the format of J. S. Bach’s St. Matthew’s Passion, which seeks to elevate the match girl’s suffering, and perhaps our own.
