Waterworks Park

Meet and Eat at Waterworks Park – Free Lunch and Activites

This summer offers a unique opportunity to reach out to families in Mission. We will be working with volunteers from Trinity, Rushton Elementary, and the City of Mission, to provide FREE lunch to ALL children ages 1 – 18 years of age. We will serve lunch from 12:00 – 12:30pm. We will also offer organized activities/games for children from 10:30am – 12:00pm each day.

The location is Waterworks Park, 5898 W 53rd St, Mission, KS. This park is located directly behind Rushton Elementary. We will serve lunch EVERY Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from June 1 – August 10, 2016.

This last year we helped support Rushton and their NEW food pantry. Over 30 families used the services of this pantry at Rushton on a regular basis. We know there is an even greater need and food insufficiency concerns for children over the summer when school is closed and they are unable to partake in the school lunch/breakfast/snack programs. This summer lunch opportunity impacts students not only from Rushton but older siblings and others who attend Hocker Grove Middle School, Shawnee Mission North High School, Sante Fe Trail Elementary and others.

Here are the ways you and your family can participate:

LUNCH TEAM – We need 3-4 TRAINED people to serve lunch each day.  We are looking for people willing to serve one day each week on a specific lunch team. Susie Schram from Trinity and Inez Holland from Rushton are leading teams on Wednesday and Rhursday. You may join their teams. We are still looking for a team for Tuesdays.

ACTIVITY TEAM – Olivia Hollman is serving as our Summer Intern at Trinity this year. She will be leading  teams who will provide organized crafts, games and activities from 10:30am – 12:00pm each day.

PANTRY TEAM – We would love to provide a mobile pantry that sends home grocery bags of food with the children who come to lunch. We would like to move the Rushton pantry to Trinity for the summer only, take donations, have a team to bag the groceries and be ready to deliver them to the park on Thursdays at least twice a month.

This summer activity offers a great way for ALL of us to participate as individuals, families, or groups. If you are interested in being a part of this opportunity to impact our local community please email Rhonda Synovec, rhonda@tlcms.org.
