The annual Fall Kickoff Picnic was held on Sunday, August 30, at Shawnee Mission Park. It was a very warm day, but we were blessed with a breeze and shade for the afternoon. There were lots of great conversations and new friendships made throughout our time together.
The picnic offered a playground for the children, games, a cornhole tournament, and Bingo with prizes. Joscelyn and Tim Rice were the Cornhole Champions and were awarded the coveted traveling trophy. Runner up trophies went to Pastor Mark Wood and Hayden Witt. All other participants were awarded medals.
DCE Dodgeball was on the agenda as well. All students who participated in our summer Shake It Up Cafe event received a chance to launch a giant beach ball at Beth and Rhonda. It was decided since one of them is expecting, and the other has a heart condition, that this may not be a safe activity for them. A BIG thanks to Hayden Witt and Aiden Van Leer for bravely stepping up and taking their place on the front lines.
We concluded the picnic with several rounds of Bingo with prizes.
We would like to express our thanks to the following people who helped make the picnic a success:
-
Kerry, Dimitry, and Hope Barker – Picking up and delivering the food and golf cart
-
David Teefey, Corey Pendleton, and Doug Lewallen – BBQ crew who did an amazing job of grilling our hamburgers and hotdogs.
-
Meggan Schempp – helped organize the food set up.
-
Hayden Witt – helping to organize the cornhole tournament
-
Gretchen Hollman – help in ordering food
We look forward to gathering together again next year!
