Dear Parents,

What a crazy time we live in. There is so much happening around us and so many decisions to make in the lives of our families. It can seem so overwhelming. Today’s message is a simple one: trust Jesus!

Trust Jesus was our VBS response for the daily Bible Points this year and it has never been more appropriate. This week we are talking about denying self, taking up our cross and following Jesus. It may sound like one more thing to do, or think about, but it actually is what we need for just this moment.

Denying self is never easy. We want what we want when we want it. Our society today tells us it is all about me, but Jesus says, “deny yourself.”

What does this mean for us? The Bible tells us we shouldn’t follow after the world and our own desires, for if we do we lose everything! We can be the greatest person here on earth while we are alive but that should not be our focus. We should follow Jesus daily, placing Him first and foremost in our lives, in order to live forever with Him. If we truly follow Jesus, we do not rely on self or others for what we need in life. We turn to the one who gives us life, everything we need, and we give up the things of this world so we can take up our cross and follow him.

Here is the reassurance: when we give everything – and I do mean everything – in our lives to Jesus we can trust that He is there to walk with us, to guide us, to strengthen us, and to give us hope through all the trial we face and through the many blessed times we experience. When we truly follow Him we are then truly His disciples, able to go forth into this crazy world and share this Good News with anyone and everyone we meet. Our words and actions reflect Christ’s love in our lives and is able to shine in the darkness of this world for others to experience.

The cross – it is a reminder of our Savior’s great love for us and our call to follow him!
