How do we, as people retired and beyond, strive to be all that God wishes us to be?

Too often the organized church looks at this age group mainly as care receivers and not as people eager to continue their ministry as “Children of God.” Trinity looks at seniors differently. The staff at Trinity works very hard to comfort and care for all ages in their time of troubled health and despair. The pastors make regular calls to our home-bound, and we also have a group of dedicated people who make regular visits to many of them. We send packets to them with news from church and copies of the sermons, and sometimes a special note of encouragement. There is, however, much more to Senior Ministry.

Trinity looks for opportunities to keep our active retired people engaged in the ministry of the church. There are numerous opportunities to explore the Bible and discover how God wants His family to be active spreaders of the Gospel message. Both campuses have regular Wednesday Bible classes, Sunday Bible classes are plentiful, as well as several prayer breakfasts during the week. The leaders of these classes are extraordinary, gifted, and experienced.

There are occasions during the year when we look at and get involved with real life issues. This year we will once again look at how dementia and Alzheimer’s disease effects the individual as well as the family. Later we will have the opportunity to share some of our heritage through favorite hymns and stories. There will be several chances to be a part of fun service projects, through caroling, assembling flood buckets, and delivery of Easter baskets to the homebound. Many of our Seniors will be breaking bread (and brats) with our confirmation class at Antioch Park on September 8. This will be a great opportunity for faith sharing with our youth.

Fellowship with our Christian friends gives time to know each other better, as well as to come together in a common mission: serving God. Both campuses will be enjoying Christmas parties, and the year will have many dinners and gatherings. We are planning to have a special senior celebration in March at the Shawnee campus. The last two were unfortunately cancelled because of weather. Hopefully we can make this happen this year. We try to make the entertainment a surprise, so who knows what will happen?

It is our goal to offer events at both campuses. It is important to know that regardless of where the event is held, all are welcome and encouraged to attend. Events such as our Confirmand/Senior Fest and Christmas caroling are off-site events. Come join the fun.

Below is a list of the activities we have planned. Some of the dates are not set yet, and we will let you know more about each event as it gets closer. Some of the dinners are not listed but you will have ample notice before they occur. I encourage you to be active and join with your fellow members as we celebrate whose we are.
