Writing is hard work! It takes discipline to make the time to write. It takes focus to stay on track and keep your purpose for writing before you. It takes persistence to stay with it until it’s done. Finally, it takes prayer to write God’s story about your life. If after you have read these weekly articles From the Author’s Corner you made the decision to begin this journey to tell your story—God’s story about your life, I applaud you!

What I have given you is a small morsel to encourage you to write, and to write well. To sharpen your writing skills, I offer these few selected resources—and there are so many more:

  • Google Search: These two links open up several resources that you can research.

  • Robert Hudson’s book, The Christian Writer’s Manual of Style, 4th edition. Grand Rapids: Zondervan, 2016. pp 621, provides answers to most questions about writing formats, styles, and nuances. It will guide you through spelling, grammar, and punctuation questions that can otherwise become showstoppers. I keep a copy handy on my book shelf. It is available on Amazon or as a Kindle Book edition.
  • Willam Zinsser’s book, On Writing Well, The Classic Guide to Writing Nonfiction, has stood the test of time, originally published in 1976, Harper Perennial, 30th Anniversary Edition was published December 2012 (334 pages). Available on Amazon and also in a Kindle Edition.
  • June Casagrande’s book, The Best Punctuation Book—Period., Ten Speed Press. 2014. (250 pages) is an excellent guide for using punctuation correctly.  This book is available on Amazon, and as a Kindle Edition.

It is my hope and prayer that I may have encouraged you to write—to write your legacy story for your children, grandchildren, and other loved ones. That in some way, I may have ignited a creative spark to motivate you to write. But more importantly, that the Holy Spirit will give you the desire, as it were, “to put pen to paper.” By praying, He will give you His words to write. This is what brings excitement to your writing project. Go forth and write!

Until we meet again at the Author’s Corner . . .

Blessings and Shalom
