Dear Trinity Members,
I want to make you aware of a personal health update. In July, during the Mission VBS week, I experienced a health issue that required hospitalization. I received a diagnosis of AFIB (atrial fibrillation), which is an abnormal heartbeat that causes the heart to beat irregularly and very fast. I would like to say this happened because of the excitement and fun of VBS, but that was not the case.
I was also experiencing shortness of breath and fatigue that started around Easter. I had an appointment scheduled with the doctor. However, my symptoms took a turn for the worse before that appointment could be held.
While in the hospital, I underwent a variety of tests that revealed I have rheumatic heart disease and have been living with this condition undetected for many years. I have two damaged heart valves. One valve must be repaired, and the other must be replaced.
It has been determined that this will require open heart surgery so both valves can be addressed simultaneously. This will also include a procedure to help the AFIB issue. The surgery is currently scheduled for mid to late January 2025.
The estimated recovery for this surgery is 8 – 10 weeks, with no lifting for eight weeks. I will be hospitalized for a week or so. After my release, I will stay with the Wilkinsons for a couple of weeks since I should not be alone. It is possible I could return to light work around 5 – 6 weeks if all is going well.
In my absence, staff, our amazing Children’s Ministry Team, and volunteers are equipped to continue our ministry to children and families. The ministry of the Mission Community Food Pantry will also continue under the leadership of Kerry Barker, our co-director, and the pantry team. Staff will be able to answer any questions you have or direct you to the person who has the answers.
I ask for your prayers for healing, health, and God’s continued comfort and peace during this time. I take comfort in the words from Psalm 46:1, which declares, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble,” and verses 10 & 11, “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.” This Psalm inspires hope, and what a beautiful contrast. When the earth shakes, mountains crumble, and waters foam and churn, we can quiet our hearts in the Lord. When the world as we know it has been shaken, those who take refuge in the Lord will not be shaken. I take refuge in His loving care and trust that He is always with me.
Blessings,
Rhonda Synovec
