Lent and Holy Week Schedule
"A Life of Discipleship: Following Jesus Together"We will once again begin our Lenten journey starting on Ash Wednesday, March 6, which marks the beginning of the 40-day season of Lent preceding Easter. God created us to experience joy in communion with him, with all humanity, and to live in harmony with all his creation. But sin has separated us from God, from one another and from his creation, and so we do not enjoy the life our Creator intended for us. Also, by our sin we grieve our Father, who does not desire that we should come under his judgment, but that we turn to him and live. As disciples of the Lord Jesus we are called to struggle against everything that leads us away from the love of God and one another. Repentance, fasting, prayer, and works of love—the disciplines of Lent—help us to wage our spiritual warfare. We are invited to this struggle and confess our sins, asking our gracious Father in Christ for strength to persevere in our Lenten journey towards spiritual renewal and growth. May we remember the ancient words of the Lenten Verse found in the Lutheran Service Book:
Return to the Lord, your God,
for He is gracious and merciful,
Slow to anger,
and abounding in steadfast love,
and abounding in steadfast love.
