The Preschool’s theme this year was based upon Isaiah 43:2 –
When you go through deep waters,
I will be with you.
In this passage, God is talking to the Israelites and referring to their journey out of Egypt. Note that the word “when” is used, not “if.” Trials in life are inevitable but we have this promise: God will be with us, He is for us, so who can be against us?
The 2018-2019 school year held some obstacles for preschool. We had staff members with loved ones going through serious medical issues, and even death. We had an alumni family, with their third child in the program, experience sudden job loss. Two families unexpectedly moved mid-year. The record number of snow days (seven!) and the large amount of rain in April and May, made it hard to get the students outside for large motor time. Our aide of six years left to pursue a career in restaurant management. The state of Kansas enforced new fingerprinting procedures, higher continuing education requirements, and new mandatory health and safety training. Yes, this school year was full of challenges.
Yet, through all of this, God was (and is!) with us.
- First and foremost, God spared nothing, not even His Son, so that we might be saved. Illness? Death? Just a temporary earthly problem—we have eternal life!
- No fear! Fear is fueled by the power of what might be or what we imagine could be. Fear robs our joy and belittles the power of God. We can have comfort and peace when we “Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome…” (Nehemiah 4:14).
- Jesus is our Intercessor. Christ is the one sitting at the right hand of the Father, and Christ is the one who intercedes for us every day. Through prayer, we can lay all our troubles on Him. We are more than conquerors through Jesus who loves us!
- His Word. When times are tough, we may feel that God has left us, but that is when we must believe His Word rather than our feelings. “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39).
Our school year has wrapped up and we are already looking ahead to a new year. We celebrate the opportunity we have had to draw closer to Him and pray that the 2019-2020 school year will be blessed with new possibilities and new opportunities to grow in faith, knowledge and wisdom.
