Most people understand that Luther’s “discovery” of the gospel restored the centrality of the doctrine of justification, reassuring believers that we are saved by grace through faith in Christ alone. This is the foundation of our faith, but it is certainly not the only teaching of Luther or the reformers. Luther also “discovered” or restored the church’s teaching about the importance of the ordinary lives we live each day. The Christian faith is not just for “someday” when life comes to an end; it is a comprehensive account of the entire world, including human beings and their place and purpose in this world. Coming to an enhanced understanding and appreciation of the vibrant breakthroughs of the Reformation will make an impact on the life you live right now. The core paradigm of the Christian faith as articulated by the reformers has immediate and profound application to real life, today.
