Happy Hour Update

Tuesday, we enjoyed the first installment of the senior “Happy Hour” It was a time to talk and catch up with friends, some of whom we haven’t seen in nearly half a year. We had 17 people participate and we have room for 83 more. Iva Schlatter promised to have a special joke each time and you need to bring your own snack. We meet via Zoom every Tuesday at 10:30am.  If you are concerned about a “happy hour” that early, Karla assures us that it is 5:00 somewhere. Why not join us this Tuesday at 10:30? The invitation is included below.

Tuesdays at 10:30am | Via Zoom

For many of us at Trinity, we miss seeing and speaking to friends we are used to talking to at worship services.  We are going to experiment with a “Happy Hour” get-together via Zoom starting on July 28.  It will not take the place of in-person fellowship, but we hope this online gathering will give us a chance to see each other and have some conversation with those we have missed.

What will it entail?

Many of us have experienced Zoom meetings lately.  This will be a weekly Zoom meeting lasting for an hour on Tuesdays starting at 10:30am. Depending on the interest shown, we will extend it weekly at least through September 1 and possibly longer. We have the capacity to allow 100 devices at one time, so all are welcome.  At 10:30 we will start with prayer. I (Tom Perry) will give a few church updates and then we will visit. I will try to monitor the conversation so that all have a chance to share if they wish to.

What is the purpose?

The sole purpose is fellowship at this time. If later on we wish to do something different we can, but now we just want to talk with our friends. I do NOT want to have this get into a political discussion. You can do that on your own. We are looking to reinforce those caring relationships that have recently been made difficult to express.

What do you need to do and have?

You will need a device that connects you to the internet with sound and video. This can be an iPhone, laptop computer, desktop computer, iPad, etc.  If you have a desktop computer, you will need to have a camera, microphone and speakers. Cell phones, laptops and iPads have these built in. You will be able to receive an electronic invitation through our weekly updates.

Is there a proper Zoom etiquette?

We will not be Zoom police, but there are certain things to keep in mind. We don’t know how many will choose to participate. It could be six or it could be 76. The more people we get the better, and with that comes some logistical things to consider. We don’t want to have people talking over each other, so if there are more than 10 participants, please use the mute button until you are ready to speak. Some people may not wish to speak at all and just watch and listen. That is perfectly alright. Please let everyone who wishes have a time to share. It is perfectly fine to catch up with old friends, but remember there will be others listening as well.

I am still working out many of the details with Gretchen and Larry. I sure there will be questions that may arise. Email me if you have questions and I will try to answer them. I hope to “see” you on the 28th.  Until then blessings to you and stay safe.
