On May 20, the Day of Pentecost (fifty days of Easter and ten days after the Ascension) the clergy wear RED vestments to signify the work of the Spirit. It is also a custom in many churches for the people in the congregation to wear RED on the Day of Pentecost as well. We invite you to wear RED on Pentecost Sunday to remind us of the fire of the Spirit.
Additionally, the sanctuary is decorated in red symbolizing the tongues of flame (and by extension, the Holy Spirit) that appeared above those who were assembled on the original Pentecost (Acts 2:3). The decorations are up and are looking great! We hope your worship is inspired by the Holy Spirit.
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit …
