Sunday, March 5
Featured in Worship at the Mission Campus
On March 5, 2023, several church musicians’ associations are celebrating music by women on Woman Composer Sunday. Linked to International Women’s Day (March 8), which has occurred for over a century, Woman Composer Sunday is an initiative of the American Guild of Organists, the Society of Women Organists, and the Royal College of Organists.
At Trinity, music by women composers will be featured in the traditional services at the Mission campus. This will include music by Alice Jordan and Gwyneth Walker. Alice Yost Jordan (1916-2012) was an internationally known composer from Iowa, best known for her choral and organ works. Born in Davenport, she was a life-long Des Moines resident who graduated from Drake University. Dr. Gwyneth Walker (b. 1947) is a New England resident and a graduate of Brown University and the Hartt School of Music. A full-time composer since 1982, she lives in her childhood hometown of New Canaan, CT. She has written for orchestra, chamber ensembles, solo instruments, choir, and solo voice. Join us for worship on March 5 to hear music of Alice Jordan, Gwyneth Walker, and more!
