March 8-9
Mission Campus
Hear music by women composers at the traditional services at the Mission campus on the first weekend in Lent. Linked to International Women’s Day (March 8), which has occurred for over a century, Woman Composer Sunday is an initiative of the American Guild of Organists, the Society of Women Organists, and the Royal College of Organists.
At Trinity, music featured will include pieces by Barbara Harbach, Anne Krentz Organ, Kristin Campbell, Ruth Coleman, Martha Sobaje, and Theophane Hytrek.
Born in Pennsylvania, Barbara Harbach is Professor of Music Emerita at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. In addition to her work as a teacher and composer, she is also a harpsichordist, organist, and founder of Vivace Press and Women of Note Quarterly.
Anne Krentz Organ serves as the Director of Music Ministries at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Park Ridge, IL. She studied at Valparaiso University, the University of Illinois, and Concordia University Chicago. Relevant to our congregation, Anne is also Dolores Boehnke’s niece.
Kristin Campbell is a violinist, pianist, music teacher, and arranger currently living in Florida. Kristin’s mother Ruth Coleman teaches piano at Bob Jones University and accompanies the Collegiate Choir. Also a church musician, Ruth has a special interest in hymn improvisation and congregational hymn playing.
Martha Sobaje teaches sacred music at the Graduate Theological Foundation and is Minister of Music and Education at Phillips Memorial Baptist Church in Cranston, RI.
Theophane Hytrek (1915-1992) was a member of the Roman Catholic School Sisters of St. Francis (SSSF). She was a pastoral musician, educator, organist, and composer. She held a doctorate in composition and was a Fellow of the American Guild of Organists.
Join us for worship on March 8-9 to hear music of these distinguished female composers!
