Dear Parents,

What reassuring words we hear this week from our Gospel lesson – “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

We carry so many burdens in our life and often think we can fix things or handle them on our own. The burdens become heavier and heavier, taking a toll on us both physically and emotionally.

What burdens are you carrying? There are certainly many, especially in today’s world with COVID-19, racial injustice, and the myriad of things happening all around us. Perhaps you, or someone you love, has an illness. Maybe you are struggling financially. Your children, and you, are struggling with social distancing and not being able to spend time with others. There may be difficulties in your marriage. The list could go on and on.

Jesus tells us to take heart. He loves us and He will help us carry these burdens. He will help lighten the load.

Does that mean if we give our burdens to him our troubles will be over? The answer to that is no. The Bible tells us in John 16:33, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

God’s Word is full of reassuring promises that He loves us, He is always with us, and only He can give us the peace, hope and strength we need through our burdens. Spend time in that word and hear the reassurance that is ours through Christ Jesus. Spend time in prayer talking with Him about what troubles you. Feel the peace only He can give in times of trouble. Trust He is walking beside each step of the way. Our burdens can help us grow in our faith and give us a new strength.

Many need to hear words of reassurance these days. You have been called to share God’s Word with those around you who are struggling and need to know God’s peace. Speak up and speak out boldly in the trust that is yours in Jesus. Help to lighten the load of others and show God’s love to those in need.

Your Trinity family is here for you! Please know I am always here to pray with you, to cry with you, to lend a listening ear, to share a laugh with, or whatever you need.
