Dear Parents,

This Sunday we celebrate Pentecost – when God fulfilled His promise and poured out His Holy Spirit upon us.

Imagine what it must have been like for the disciples to experience this. They could now speak in languages they had never spoken before and probably had never heard before. Tongues of fire rested upon them and they were able to share with all who had gathered in Jerusalem in languages the people could understand.

Imagine being those who had gathered in Jerusalem for the Festival of the Harvest. They had come from many lands and languages. They hear this mighty wind, they gather to see what is going on, and the disciples appear speaking in their language and they can understand what is being said.

Imagine hearing that the promises of God were coming true – the God poured out the Holy Spirit just as He promised and because of this gift amazing things were going to happen. Imagine hearing about Jesus and how He came and fulfilled God’s promise to send a Savior.

Imagine being one of the 3,000 people who heard this news, believed the message, were brought to faith through the power of the Holy Spirit, and were baptized. Now, imagine being able to travel home and share this Good News with those where you live.

Imagine being the disciples who would now begin to travel near and far to share the Word of God with people around the world. I’m pretty sure they would have never imagined this is what God had planned for their lives.

What about you? Are you sharing the love of God with the people you know or meet? Do you feel the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in your lives to lead and guide you to be disciples in this world?

Here is the best news for us – God HAS poured His Spirit upon us. He has brought us to faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, and he guides us and leads us in our daily lives. We do not have to fear that we don’t have the right words, that others will look at us differently, that we may inadequate in knowing God’s Word to share it, or that we just don’t know what to do. God’s Spirit is upon us and we only need to seek Him to help us be his disciples in this world.

Our purpose is to love God, love others, and GO! God sent his Holy Spirit to breathe life into His church and WE ARE THE CHURCH! The church building is a place to gather together but THE CHURCH is each of us living out God’s commands in our daily lives in the world around us – at home, in our neighborhoods and communities, with family, friends, and all around the world. The Holy Spirit will help us and guide us each step of the way so we my GO and make disciples.
