Day 1

“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise.” (Matthew 7:24)
Bible Point – When we wonder, we can Trust Jesus.
Life can be difficult and distracting, everyday things driving our attention away from the only One who matters. Jesus tells the crowd gathered to listen to his teachings that “anyone who listens to My teaching and follows it is wise.” This is an important verse for us to keep in mind during our lives. That just by following Jesus’ teachings we’ll be okay. Even though it can be difficult to give our worries and our questions to Him, it is important for us to remember that when we wonder, we can trust Jesus.
Dear God, help us to remember that You come first. Remind us that in the midst of the questions and worry, we should turn to You. Give us the strength to overcome our doubts throughout this week, and to always follow Your Will. Amen.
Day 2

“Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will
give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
Bible Point – When we feel alone, we can Trust Jesus.
“Come to Me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest,” Jesus declared in Matthew 11:28, for no one understands how burdensome life can be for us better than Jesus. Unlike normal “kings” who live in wealth and splendor, our King and Savior didn’t sit on a throne made of gold, wearing a bejeweled crown. He was nailed to a cross with a crown of thorns on his head. We get to say that we have a King who physically walked in our shoes, for he became a mortal man and was among us. He felt tired and sad and alone; feelings we experience almost every day! And in this verse, He offers us relief. By simply laying our burdens at His feet we will find rest. Through Him, we can firmly believe that when we feel alone, we can trust Jesus.
Dear God, help us remember that we don’t have to carry our burdens alone, because You walk with us every step of the way. When we feel alone, we know that we can trust You; You have never failed. Throughout the rest of this week, help anyone who is feeling alone find love and encouragement from those around them. Amen.
Day 3

“‘Don’t be afraid,’ he said, ‘Take courage. I am here!’” (Matthew 14:27)
Bible Point – When we feel powerless, we can Trust Jesus.
The disciples were afraid. In the middle of a tremendous storm, they were on the sea, far away from land, crammed into a boat. Between the rolling waves, the relentless rain, and the strong wind, it was a wonder they could see anything at all. Just keeping the boat from capsizing was most likely taking all of the effort of the combined disciples. They probably felt extremely powerless and small. Then, Jesus showed up, walking on top of the waves, and in the midst of one of the most powerful passages in the Bible, one we think of with awe and amazement, the disciples were terrified. Thinking Jesus was a ghost, they cried out. “‘Don’t be afraid,’ He answered them, ‘take courage. I am here!’” He is reminding both the disciples and us that when we feel powerless, we can trust in Jesus, for He will help us through.
Dear God, when we feel small and powerless like the disciples during the storm, remind us that You are our firm foundation, and through You, anything is possible. Guide us through every difficult time and give us the strength we need throughout the next few days to bring a smile to every child’s face who walks through the doors. Amen.
Day 4

“And his name will be the hope of all the world.” (Matthew 12:21)
Bible Point – When we need hope, we can Trust Jesus.
Before Jesus came down to Earth and died on the cross, our sins were all we knew. But he came to fulfill a purpose, and through Him, we have hope. Maybe following Jesus day to day isn’t always easy. It can be difficult to remember what He’s done for you as you’re going about your life. But Jesus died for a reason, and even as He was on the cross, He already knew your name. Knew you were worth loving. Worth dying for. Through our Savior, when we need hope, we can trust Jesus.
Dear God, help us to remember everything you’ve done for us. You sent Your son to die because Your love for us is so great. Help us to keep our eyes on heaven and not worldly things. Because Jesus is the way, the truth, and the light. He is our hope. Amen.
Day 5

“I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20)
Bible Point – When we need help, we can Trust Jesus.
Everyone has needed help before. Sometimes with small things, other times with big things. But for us as humans, it’s very easy to forget that we have someone willing to help us no matter how big or small the problem is. Sometimes it’s hard to deal with our own troubles and help our friends with theirs, too. It’s easy to walk away; and humans have a tendency to do just that. We get too used to having to take care of our issues ourselves. Scared to have everyone walk away when they see how messy our life is. But there is someone, who, no matter what, will never leave us: Jesus. Before His ascension, He promised the disciples that “I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Jesus will stand by us no matter what. Always and forever. Through our best moments and our worst moments. Because when we need help, we can trust in Jesus.
Dear God, thank You for never leaving us, or walking away. Thank You for being someone we can lean on. Thank You for always keeping Your promises. Guide our hearts, souls, and minds as VBS comes to a close. As each child leaves today, we pray that they find that You are someone they can trust, always. Amen.
