I recently traveled to Raleigh-Durham, NC, for the biennial conference of the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians (ALCM). I was on the planning committee for this conference, so much of my time was occupied with behind-the-scenes logistical tasks. We were delighted to have over 460 attendees (our original expectation was 350). Highlights of the conference for me included two worship services in Duke University’s majestic chapel, connections with friends and colleagues from around the country, and a hymn festival led by Tom Trenney at Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral in Raleigh. I also appreciated the chance to share meals with composers and plenary speakers, and to have conversations with a representative from OneLicense (a copyright licensing company). I left the conference feeling energized and refreshed. Thanks to the congregation of Trinity for helping to fund this continuing education trip!
